Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
When a visitor enters a name or case number in a search tool, the entry is sent to the third-party service that operates that search. That provider processes the request and returns any result. Onslow County Court Docket does not keep or log the search terms entered through those tools.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained so that a reply can be provided. The message remains within our organization and is not shared outside it unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads an Onslow County Court Docket page, server and service logs can receive technical information about that visit, including:
- The IP address assigned to the visitor’s device
- The browser and browser version in use
- The device type and operating system
- Pages visited and the time spent on each page
- The referring site, when one is available
- Timestamps associated with page views
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device that help show how visitors use the site, such as which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics services use aggregated traffic information for that purpose. Browser settings can block cookies, although some site features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Visitor data is used to operate and maintain Onslow County Court Docket and its services. That use can include:
- Keeping pages available and performing well
- Sending search requests to the appropriate partner service
- Understanding which pages visitors find useful
- Identifying and correcting technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may be relevant to visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Onslow County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case-record information. It provides general information about locating Onslow County court records. The official custodian of an Onslow court file is the Onslow County Clerk of Superior Court, while the North Carolina eCourts Portal provides public Case Summaries and other public information where available.
Court-file access is distinct from visitor-data handling under this policy. N.C.G.S. 7A-109 addresses the Clerk’s court-record keeping and public-inspection role, subject to legal access limits. N.C.G.S. 132-1 supplies the broader North Carolina public-record framework. Neither source turns a Portal display into an official Clerk record. Onslow County Court Docket is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and it does not assemble visitor data into consumer reports or files about third parties.
Third-Party Search Partners
Search boxes on Onslow County Court Docket are operated by outside providers. Information entered into those tools is handled under the provider’s own privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and sharing practices, which are outside our control. Review that provider’s policy before submitting a search.
Links to Other Websites
Onslow County Court Docket links to clerk pages, trial-court and public-portal resources, legal-aid organizations, and search services. Following one of those links leaves this site, and the destination’s privacy policy then applies. Review the destination policy before providing personal information.
Some advertising partners may track activity across websites in order to provide targeted advertisements. That activity takes place through their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. The following parties may receive information in the limited situations described by this policy:
- Search partners that process queries made through the site
- Analytics providers used to measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place advertisements on pages
- Law-enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security practices are used to protect the data collected through Onslow County Court Docket. Internet-connected systems cannot be made entirely risk free. Reasonable efforts are made to safeguard information, but absolute prevention of a breach cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
Onslow County Court Docket is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If we learn that a minor has provided personal data, that information will be deleted promptly.
Your Data Rights
Requests about visitor data are different from requests for an Onslow court file. North Carolina’s court-record access rules identify the Clerk, not this private site, as the custodian of a county court file. They do not create a general visitor-data deletion right under this policy. Depending on the law that applies to a visitor’s personal data, a visitor may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal data we hold about that visitor
- Correct personal data that is inaccurate
- Delete personal data where applicable law requires or permits deletion
- Opt out of certain data processing where applicable law provides that option
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this privacy policy in the future. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date. Visitors who want to follow changes in data handling can review this policy periodically.
Effective date: August 31, 2026
